Product Description
At 10.2 ounces, Kindle is lighter than a typical paperback and as thin as most magazines. Barely a third of an inch in profile, you'll find Kindle fits perfectly in your hands. Kindle is as easy to hold and use as a book. We designed it with long-form reading in mind. When reading for long periods of time, people naturally shift positions and often like to read with one hand. Kindle's page-turning buttons are located on both sides, allowing you to read and turn pages comfortably with one hand from any position. The page-turn buttons now flex inward to prevent any accidental page turns when picking up or handling Kindle. Kindle has a new easy-to-use 5-way controller, enabling precise on-screen navigation for selecting text to highlight or looking up words. Kindle is completely wireless and ready to use right out of the box--no setup, no cables, no computer required. With Kindle's 25% longer battery life, you can read on a single charge for up to 4 days with wireless on. Turn wireless off and read for up to 2 weeks. Battery life will vary based on wireless usage, such as shopping the Kindle Store and downloading content. In low coverage areas or in 1xRTT only coverage, wireless usage will consume battery power more quickly. Whispernet utilizes Amazon's optimized technology plus Sprint's national high-speed (3G) data network to enable you to wirelessly search, discover, and download content on the go. Your books and periodicals are delivered via Whispernet in less than 60 seconds. And unlike WiFi, you never have to hunt for a hotspot.

Average Rating 4.5 (4577 customers reviews) Love my Kindle!,

I received my Kindle in March and absolutely love it! I mainly got one because most paperbacks have such small print that my eyes tire after reading a chapter. With the Kindle, you can increase the print size to be easy on the eyes. We went to the beach a couple of weeks ago and when someone would tell me about a good book, I could find it and download sitting right out on the beach. It's easy to grab and take with you anywhere. I do wish the 2nd ed. Kindle could take a memory card for extra storage. I can't figure out why they left that feature off. Nevertheless, I wouldn't take anything for my Kindle!!!
Too fragile, poor customer service,

Dan Wilson I was an early adopter of the Kindle 1, also had a Kindle 2, and I was a HUGE fan. As a frequent traveler and avid reader, I sang the Kindle's praises to countless flight attendants, fellow passengers, coffee shop patrons, friends, relatives, casual acquaintances. But (and with my two stars and use of the past tense, you knew there was a 'but' coming)...I'm now way off the bandwagon.
I broke my Kindle 1. It was out of its cover, sitting on a hotel room bed when I accidentally put my suitcase on it, broke the screen. I can't and didn't complain - it was a bonehead move. And the Kindle 2 had just been released, so I shelled out another $400 (after learning that repair is impossible). The Kindle 2 made it for about a month before the same thing happened - not the bonehead bed and suitcase thing, but the broken screen thing. This time is was in it's case, in my laptop bag, no banging about. Just must have gotten squeezed, now it's dead.
This time I felt I had a valid complaint, so I went to Amazon customer service, filled out the form and waited. And waited, and waited. Two weeks later I resubmitted the form and heard back (promptly, the second time around) that I was out of luck. I paraphrase there, but just barely - there was no refurb or replacement offering, no consideration for the $800 in Kindle I've bought nor the $1000 in Kindle books. Just 'sorry, not covered'. I think there was a tongue-sticking-out emoticon too, but I may have imagined that.
I'm now hostage to the Kindle books I own, so I'll be grudgingly shelling out another $400. But if not for those, I'd go back to good old unbreakable hard copies at the local brick and mortar bookstore. Call me bitter, but I also feel compelled to make up for all the positive Kindle feedback I provided. I'm now the anti-ambassador for anyone that will listen. Hopefully starting with you - don't buy one.

I've had my Kindle for a month now, and it's one of the best purchases I've made in a LONG time! I read everyday and have charged the battery only 2 times! It lasts a long time. The words are very clear, even in
outside sun. It's very easy to use, the navigation is very clear and very fast! The downloading is very fast, 10-15 seconds, and very easy to use. It's small, but not too small, and easy to take anywhere. I also recommend the book light for Kindle. It's works great in low light situations!

Well Worth Every Dime.,

In my humble opinion, I believe the Kindle is WELL worth the money. I bought mine a month ago, and have had it by my side ever since. I take it to work, school, and just around, just to spend as many minutes I can to read. It has brought the joy of reading to me, and I love that. Everywhere I go people ask me about it, and are amazed. I had never seen one in person before I bought mine, so when I opened the box I thought it might be anti-climatic. I was as amazed by it as I had hoped to be, and still am to this day. Oh, and by the way, this is coming from a guy who just spent just $400 on my last truck. Believe me, I don't like wasting money. This is no waste of money.

I love my kindle and take it everywhere I go. The downloads are cheap and easy. I think the only thing I do not like is the on and off switch. Sometimes it refuses to turn off and I just get frustrated with it.
